CASE STUDY · AUTOLANE

One of the first to believe.

Autolane — the OS for autonomous commerce — went on to raise $7.4M from Draper and Hyperplane. MatCap didn't lead them there. We were one of the first to hear the idea, back it, and put it in front of the room to sharpen it.

MATCAP'S ROLE
Early believer · messaging · warm VC intros
The honest version: MatCap didn't connect Autolane to Draper or Hyperplane — those came separately. What we did was hear the idea early, believe in it, help sharpen the messaging, and open the door to a top-tier crew of investors. Sometimes the value isn't the check that lands — it's the conviction to back it first and getting the story in front of the right room.
THE ROOM

The crew we put the idea in front of.

A $7.4M seed starts long before the term sheet. Here's the crew MatCap opened up early for Ben. None of them invested — and that's the point. This is the room you want hearing a big idea on the future of autonomous commerce.

USV, General Catalyst, Matrix, Precursor, SignalFire, HF0, Long Journey, Weekend Fund — a dozen of the sharpest minds in early-stage took the meeting. That's the crew you want kicking the tires on a big thesis before you go raise.

The challenge

Autolane is a big, early thesis: infrastructure to coordinate the flood of autonomous vehicles arriving at private property — the malls, retailers, and restaurants where AVs will pick up, drop off, and deliver. Ten million AVs are projected at American curbs by 2030. Someone has to be the air traffic control.

At that stage, what Ben needed was a sharp, forwardable story and warm intros to the right investors — and someone who believed enough to open the door.

If MatCap is the right fit, the door is open.
